Saint Petersburg: Home to Rays, Dogs, Water and Sunshine

SAINT PETERSBURG, FL - Saint Petersburg is home to an eclectic mix of styles and tastes from rich baby boomers and snow bird to up-and-coming millennials to dog lovers, and just about anything in between.

Rays Baseball

The Rays started as an MLB expansion team in 1998, then called the Devil Rays. They struggled to build up a fan base as loyal as some other older franchises, but there is still a sizeable minority of die-hard baseball and Rays fans local to Pinellas and Hillsborough countries. They even won the American League penant in 2008, but have struggled to return. We still love the Rays though!

Dogs

Saint Petersburg is very friendly to canines. Dog friendly business are all over the place, especially along the luxerious Beach Drive. Even most of the local Publix grocery stores don't mind if you bring your dog inside! I've even seen owners feeding their dogs Publix ice cream while they shop. You couldn't ask for a more friendly environment for your cuddly pets.

Water and Sunshine

At the end of the Pinellas peninsula, abutting the Gulf of Mexico and the Tampa Bay, Saint Petersburg is surrounded by water. Beyond that, neighboring cities of Clearwater Beach and Saint Pete Beach, as well as unincorperated Tierra Verde, offer even more nearby beach access and water activites. To top it off, with nearly 3,000 hours of sunshine (67% of the maximum possible), St Pete is the definitive place to be for sunshine.

ST PETE TIPS

#1

Stay local and small. The best spots are where the locals dine and play.

#2

Avoid chains like Subway, McD, and Wendy's. Luckily they aren't prevelant downtown.

#3

Go to a beach. They are amazing!
